What are Azure data analytics services?

At its core, Azure data analytics services is about creating a platform which will convert your data into action. In other words, it implies ETL/ELT operations, establishing the location of this data (warehouse or lakehouse), creating real-time and streaming analytics if necessary, covering it with Power BI, and, last but not least, feeding it into the machine learning models with help of specific services for data analytics and artificial intelligence integration provided by Azure.

Right now, most of these processes are performed via Microsoft Fabric and OneLake. With Fabric, Synapse, Data Factory, and Power BI are merged into one single SaaS platform which eliminates a lot of issues and simplifies many things. We use Microsoft Fabric, Synapse, Data Lake, and Azure ML to create a well-prepared data set from the unstructured enterprise data that you can use further and even convert to AI.

Fabric from Microsoft is an integrated analytics platform, and truthfully, it is where this kind of analysis belongs now. Fabric integrates data integration, engineering, warehousing, real-time insights, data science, and Power BI into one lake when before you needed Synapse, Data Factory, and Power BI Premium separately.

OneLake — one copy of the truth

Workloads all use OneLake, managed via Microsoft Purview using one capacity model. No more moving data around in other tools just to make it go where it’s supposed to. Also, lower costs and fewer chances for data to get out of sync between systems.

Direct Lake performance

Power BI can access Delta-Parquet directly from OneLake at near-import speeds, with no refresh copies stored anywhere. Reports are lightning fast on large datasets and frequently changing data.

Real-Time Intelligence

Frequently Asked Questions

The two concepts do overlap, but there is a distinction in terms of focus. Azure Data and Analytics Services is a wider category that includes ingestion, warehousing, lakehouses, real-time pipelines, and business intelligence reporting. On the other hand, Azure Data Analytics and AI Integration Services deals with tying those governed data into machine learning and generative AI models, including Copilots, hence the same platform powering your dashboards and AI capabilities use cases without duplicating or re-engineering the data.

The Fabric is Microsoft’s SaaS analytics platform which unifies all aspects of data analytics from data integration, engineering, warehouse, real-time insights, data science, and Power BI under one lake (OneLake). In essence, it combines what Synapse, Data Factory, and Power BI Premium did individually before. For now, if you’re using Synapse workload, there is nothing to worry about since they will continue working perfectly, we adopt Fabric where it genuinely adds value, not just because it's newer.

OneLake is Fabric’s one and only data lake for the organization – a unified governance copy used by all workloads. With Direct Lake, Power BI can access Delta-Parquet data in OneLake without having to refresh copies.

That can be fine as it is. We've got your back with Synapse estate, as-is; upgrade to Fabric, if that works for you; migrate legacy big data estate to lakehouse if that becomes necessary after evaluation of your estate, but nothing more than that.

Through OneLake, clean pipes, semantic models, and quality control – it’s brought into a condition where it can truly serve Power BI, machine learning models, and RAG/generative AI use cases.

Microsoft Purview deals with catalog, data lineage, sensitivity labels, and DSPM. Access is controlled using Entra ID and RBAC. For protection of the infrastructure, Private networking and Key Vault are utilized. Row/Object level protection and auditing log cover everything else.

Copilot in Fabric and Power BI allows for posing questions in natural language and generating reports, DAX code, and data transformations along with AI-powered insights. It requires a minimum Fabric capacity of F64 or above, and we support you in sizing and governance of the solution.
